Open Source DataTurbine V3.2B2 released
Date:
22/04/2009

A new version of the DataTurbine (V3.2B2) has been released. The code is available at: http://code.google.com/p/dataturbine/source/checkout The installation file (jar) can be downloaded at: http://dataturbine.googlecode.com/files/RBNB-V3.2B2-install.jar

As a part of our ongoing effort to measure and enhance reliability of DataTurbine, we are conducting experiments on the NTL and PRAGMA testbed. We tested the performance of DataTurbine routing mechanism (push mirror) under long-term network failures (failures lasting for a duration of an hour or more). The results of this experiments lead to the following release of new version.

The new version of DataTurbine server ensures that each mirror frame is sent to the downstream server by round-trip confirmation of the receipt of each mirrored data frame. There is a tradeoff between performance and reliability and the newer version alllows users to tune the system to match the requirements of their application.  For example, for applications where performance is more important than reliability, this feature can be turned off by the following definition in the DataTurbine startup Java command: -DasyncMirror
