Inca now monitoring GLEON DataTurbine deployment

Inca now monitoring GLEON DataTurbine deployment

Automated, periodic monitoring of system components is essential for large-scale observing systems such as GLEON. GLEON sensor data is collected from lakes across the world and streamed to a server in Wisconsin using DataTurbine. Currently, the DataTurbine deployment for GLEON includes Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire, Lake Erken in Sweden, and multiple lakes in Wisconsin. To monitor the status of the DataTurbine deployment for GLEON, we recently installed Inca, a system health monitoring tool developed at SDSC. Inca is currently monitoring network connectivity, DataTurbine, and other software components. Specific examples of status monitoring include checking versions of installed software components and conducting liveliness tests for both software and hardware components. Details and status pages can be found at http://inca-gleon.sdsc.edu. By allowing us to quickly detect and fix problems with system components, Inca monitoring will improve upon the reliability of DataTurbine data streaming in GLEON.

DataTurbine and Inca have been recently funded by SDCI. Thanks to our Inca partner Shava Smallen (PI and lead of Inca project) and our GLEON/NTL collaborators, especially Tim Kratz, Paul Hanson, and Luke Winslow.
